The R.J.K. Group consists of two Canadian-based companies: R.J.K. Power Systems Ltd. and R.J.K. Mobile Mechanics Inc. R.J.K. Power Systems specializes in complete powerhouse relocations and the care of stationary or prime power diesel engines. The company also provides training and development, research and evaluation services. R.J.K. Mobile Mechanics Inc. supplies the labour and equipment, as well as the infrastructure to complete various tasks around the globe. Incorporated in September 1981, R.J.K. Group has provided consulting and training services to a number of organizations including mining, construction, railways, shipping, federal and provincial governments.
RJK provides services with semi-transports, mobile cranes, and the work crews to complete such in-house tasks as:
· NWT Power Corp.- The purchase and decommissioning of PinePoint diesel plant in 1998.
· Heath Steel Mining - The purchase and relocation of 1900 kw plant from New Brunswick to Canada’s Artic Circle in 1999.
· International Graphite - The purchase of the powerhouse diesel generators which consisted of 1-1900kw Ruston, and 2 - 1600kw Paxman sets.
· The Ruston is being relocated to Jamaica, and the parts went to Barefoot cruises in Maimi in 1999.
· Frontec Logistics - Provide 38 qualified trades persons to decommission the High Artic “DEW Line Sites” (Distant Early Warning - US Military site)
Strategic Considerations
The principal strengths of RJK Mobile Mechanics are:
· the quality of their service
· the competence of its staff
· the extent of its sales and service to smaller, more isolated communities in the Northwest Territories
· the considerable amount of parts carried in inventory
· the number of qualified service mechanics already on staff
Additional strengths the company posesses are a:
· strong sales team
· dynamic marketing program
· supportive and diversified service program (The P.R.E.P.P.)
Since 1981, RJK Mobile Mechanics has provided conscientious, reliable heavy duty mechanical services.
Using their own heavy equipment and crews, the company has been able to successfully service the needs of companies located in remote and isolated posts. This in itself is an impressive accomplishment. The future is extremely favourable as our companies grow, and other companies become leaner in human resources, looking instead to outside sources offering labour crews. The quality of RJK's service has given them a reputation for fairness and dependability. RJK Mobile Mechanics has also trained a significant number of people and currently has them on staff.
Robert Kreuger, the founder and a principal consultant, has over 20 years experience in the field of diesel engine repair and maintenance. He has worked for over 15 years with MAN B&W (formally GEC Alstom (Ruston) as a sub-contractor, and as their technical representative in the field. He has supplied both experienced labour and materials for many of their own service contracts. One of his many strengths is his technical expertise in failure analysis. It was through his experiences completing major failure reports for powerhouse owners, insurance companies, and governments that the need for this P.R.E.P.P. program was founded. Many of these reports were used to obtain out-of-court settlements.
Robert constantly keeps current with new advances for “approved” methods of site repair. He has experience in many areas including electrical systems and heavy equipment. In addition to this expertise, he has:
· private pilot's license with multi-engine and instrument flight rating (IFR) endorsements 1977
· Certificate of completion for marketing and management of parts, service, and sales for Allis Chalmers 1979
· Inter-Provincial Journeyman status in heavy-duty mechanics from Saskatchewan 1981
· 1A with air semi transport endorsements 1984
· Ruston Factory training - England 1992
· Woodward Factory Training - England 1992
· Napier Turbo training - Lincoln England 1992
· BDC ISO9001 Product seminars - Saskatoon 1999
· George S. May International Business support and planning. - Saskatoon 1999
Brent Kreuger - “Needs” assessment, planning, evaluation, and training are critical skill areas for him. As an owner of Global Infobrokers Inc, a business development and support company, he has worked in a variety of analytical and planning capacities and has assisted over 100 companies in designing management information tools customized to their specific organizational needs. Brent is responsible for technological training, technical support, management and development for companies. Working for large and small businesses, as well as educational institutions, he has helped organizations determine their technology requirements based upon their work needs, located appropriate hardware and software, assessed training needs, designed and delivered electronic training for staff and professionals and made adaptations for cultural and individual learning styles. As an educator, he is acutely aware of the learning needs of individuals and works to ensure that training is delivered in the most appropriate way for the individual. He has worked in a number of different cultural environments and is able to adapt material accordingly. As a trainer and self taught computer user, he approaches training from the point of view of client needs as opposed to technological possibilities. He is well-versed in many different business environments and in transitional learning. Brent has been directly involved with RJK for over 10 years and has performed a wide variety of tasks including aiding in the teardown and repair of catastrophic engine failures. This first hand experience is what makes him such a valuable asset to RJK’s P.R.E.P. program. Prior to joining the RJK Group, he owned and operated a commercial photographic print lab specializing in displays and custom work.
Mr. Kreuger holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan, a Bachelor of Applied Arts from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto, and is pursuing a Masters of Distance Education (on-line) on a part-time basis
